Steve Walker is a remarkable young man whose story is an inspiration to parents and those who have come through the Child Welfare system of Protective Services, Foster Care, and Adoption. Steven will speak of his journey including his struggles, hardships and joy, helping attendees understand what children in the system experience and feel. Come hear how one young man survived the foster care system, found his forever family, and now advacates for a permanent, loving family for all children.
Participants will learn: 1) What it is like to be a child in the foster care system; 2) How one child overcame hardships to become a successful and contributing member of society; 3) What some of the factors are that lead to placement stability and successful outcomes for foster children; 4) Specific advocacy skills they can use to advance the rights of children in care.
